Laboratory of Air-Sea Interaction

Group of Micrometeorology - IAG/USP

The energy transfer of mass and moment between the ocean and the atmosphere, which takes place through the vertical turbulent fluxes, is an important aspect of the possible climatic change that the planet is suffering. These fluxes provide the coupling between the ocean and the atmosphere representing a key processes in the climatic system. Besides climatic changes, the knowledge of the air-sea interface turbulent exchanges is important for diagnostic and prognostic studies applied to numerical weather predictions, to environmental monitoring activities using operational models of pollutant dispersion in atmospheric and ocean, oceanographic studies, wave forecasting model, marine engineering, etc. The principal activities carried out in the Laboratory are concentrated in the observational and numerical investigations of physical phenomena related to the atmospheric and oceanic boundary layers.
